Meet the Primary Class all-star cast!
The first week of school is all about building up classroom community. We read a lot of books that teach us about trying our best, how to work together, and what it means to be a good friend.
One of the big parts of starting a new school year is realizing that each person in the class is different and unique--and that's a good thing! We are all different but when we come together as a class, we create something beautiful! To illustrate this, each student outlined his/her hands, decorated them with crayons, and then went over them with watercolors.
Separately, each hand was unique and beautiful; however, it isn't until we all came together that we created something truly special.
We also talked about how every single person is an important part of our class. Just like a puzzle, if one piece is missing, we aren't complete.
"Isn't it a wonderful thing that we're all different? Each of us has strengths and skills to share. And when we link our individual strengths together, we're invincible."
We also did a lot fun games and activities to get our bodies moving and help us get to know one another. In this activity, the students had to work together to figure out how to get this too-heavy box from inside the classroom to the hallway. They decided to tie the rope to the basket and have each person pull the rope together. Great teamwork!
Another important (and fun!) part of our day is Centers! This is time for kids to challenge their brains, muscles, and imaginations through play!
This group turned the Kitchen are into a car and were on their way to a picnic!
The construction area encourages creative thinking and problem solving as they collaborate to engineer structures!
And we have no doubt the Science area will be a huge hit with this group! This build-a-bug activity was a very popular choice and has led us to begin our first investigation: Insects!
Here is a sneak peek at the start of our Insect investigation!
Through this blog, we will be including details about our classroom routines, new learning, and our exciting investigations. We hope you enjoyed this quick peek inside the first week of school in the Primary Class!
I love the hand cutout flower!
